Slightly morbid thought but I realized that once the XTS is out of production we’ll need a new Cadillac casket mover. I really don’t see the CT6 making the move so either the XT5 or some future XT7 would be the candidates. Add that to the only people shopping the MKT and you pretty much have an all CUV hearse market. I don’t see the Chrysler 300 hearse continuing once FCA realizes the that “Chrysler” is a brand and not a model name.
What do you think, can you think of a reason to have a hearse based on a large sedan over a midsize/large CUV?
On a different note, this is the only time you’ll see a Lincoln MKT limousine with a trunk (all the others have a hatch)!
This segment is going to completely change over the next decade or two.

Class. Sedan based hearses tend to look more classy, more dignified than crossover ones.

I was thinking the same, but the generation that sees large sedans as a sign of prestige are dying off and new CUVs are looking as classy as their sedan counterparts. Plus all these new sedans are so low and sporty that it seems as if the CUVs have taken over the roles.

Now if they would just 3d print carved panels like hearses for the 1920s and 30s

A classic Cadillac hearse is the best.
My dying wishes would be to build an Art Deco caddy masterpiece and parade around the town before being dumped in my backyard.

Not just CUVs, either. The market has been open to full size SUVs, like the Yukon/XL, Tahoe/Suburban, and Escalade/EXT for a few years now.
You can even get a full size van that’s been turned into a hearse, Nissan’s
full size NV
. I’d be willing to bet someone could figure out how to turn a smaller van into a hearse, too. Like a Mercedes-Benz Metris, or a Ford Transit Connect.
But, there could be some that could save the sedan/non-SUV hearse...
Toyota Prius , anyone?
Shame Dodge doesn’t still build the Magnum ...
The Hyundai Sonata could be a good candidate, if Americans were willing to let their hearses be anything other than boxes.
Or a Porsche?

I’m seeing more and more minivans being used as hearses. That’s what they used to haul my mother-in-law off this summer.

I’ve seen these quite frequently. They’re a bit nondescript, but get the job done I guess.
You can go out more conventionally with a Benz too though.

Nobody rides in the back of them (except the coffin) so it doesn’t really matter.

Interestingly, the manner of your final journey varies considerably according to where you are.
The French rather like vans:
The Americans like to conceal the deceased with landau bars (the chrome things on the side)
And others of us prefer to give the deceased a Merc with a view:

Here’s a proper hearse. Doesn’t have to be a Merc but around here they usually are. No signs of any other body style else being used.
